Hi, I have another question except this time it concerns plant life. It would appear to be parasitic or epiphytic having masses of rusty red tendrils grasping it's host making a nest like conglomeration up to a volume of approximately 200mm square.
And it only seems to be prevalent on dry dusty ridge tops. We are in northern Almeria in the Sierra Maria-Los Velez.
Thanks Simon

P.S. I have a photo if anyone should need more clarification. ... Answer/s

I have a question about storks. I just returned from a 2 week holiday in central Spain. The last time we visited was in 1979! Is it my imagination or are white storks more common now? They seem to be everywhere!

Thank you

We are two adults and one ten year old travelling in the first two weeks of July. - we want to spend some time hiking in the Pyrenees (day hikes). We also plan to spend some time in the Picos de Europas to do some hiking, canyon trips and possibly a rafting trip. We are starting from Barcelona and we will have a car.
I am looking for recommendations on a good place to base ourselves for each of these areas. Any accommodation recommendations would also be appreciated. ... Answer/s

Hi,
We are a New Zealander couple traveling to Spain in early June, 2008.
In NZ we are WWOOF (Willing workers on organic farms) hosts and would like to meet like minded people in the Pamplona area.
We have also built a mud brick (adobe) house with wwoofers help in New Zealand in the past year, and would like to see other earth buildings/builders while in Spain.
Can youy help us by giving us some organisations we can contact, or contact emails for others interested in earth building.
thanking you in advance, ... Answer/s

Hi,

Insect identification needed. I think it is some kind of 'rover beetle' but I am unsure. Its black, about 4 to 5 cm long, upper parts as of a large black ant but an extended sausage like black thorax with bright red segmented 'slashes' horizontally down it's back.

It looks threatening but I have suffered no ill consequences to handling it yet and what is more I am not in short supply here in north east Andalucia. ... Answer/s

Hi,

Just wondered if anybody knows of any decent places to fish in the Comunidad de Madrid? It just seems that the options are very limited? In particular I love my river fishing but it is not clear where and when you can fish? For example does anybody know if there are any places and how it fishes on the Rivers Manazanares and the Rio Jardama? Are these rivers quite polluted?

Also I enjoy my trout fishing and I would love to be able to fish some of the rivers in the mountains. But it seems that for the most part these are Cotos meaning private fishing and it is only limited to a small group of people every year. Does anybody know of any places open to day ticket?

Finally for some of the regions there is really good info, I have really good information for Castilla de León, but I cannot find one for the “Comunidad de Madrid”, does anybody know if there is one available?

Thanks ... Answer/s

Hi,

We are 2 adults planning our 1st trip to Spain in April from the 6th to the 11th. Since our aims are adventure sports, discovering the wildlife and the surrounding nature we are looking for the best area in the Pyrenees as regards to rafting (canoe and/or kayak), trekking, lake fishing, horse riding, ski if possible and any adventure sports.

I am wondering whether anybody has any tips of what we could do at this time of year, and where is the best area to stay?

Our only concern is traveling from the Pyrenees to Girona, since we will be departing from Girona airport on the 12th; I was looking for a city in the Pyrenees which is in about 5hrs drive to Girona airport.

Any ideas will be highly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Here in the north east of Almeria, though I doubt it is exclusive, we have a bright green spider. It is about 8mm in diameter and loves sitting in our 'tradescantia purpurea' which looks fab. But what is it?. Lately it has become more gregarious around the house and has to be expelled into the olive grove, but they keep coming back. ... Answer/s

I was interested in the report on otters in the Duero (Field Reports, Conny Bartels, January 17).

We also seem to have a spate of otter sightings in rivers and reservoirs of Toledo province, sometimes in places where no otters had been seen for many years. They have even been spotted recently in our local Cazalegas reservoir, a relatively busy area, surrounded by housing where, sadly, some have become road casualties (see http://serranillos.superforos.com/viewtopic.php?t=417 ).

Also, just last week a friend saw one in the Tajo from a bridge in Talavera (human pop. 100,000!).

Are otters on the come-back in Spain? Many of us hope so... It would be interesting to read about encounters in other parts of Spain....
